Throughout her life, Aung San Suu Kyi faced innumerable challenges to her liberty from Myanmar’s authoritarian regime. Still, she took a monumental stand against the oppressive forces of dictatorship, embracing her prominent role in Burmese politics to transform Myanmar from a state ravaged by colonialism to a fledgling democracy built on the principles of equality. However, her actions as leader of Myanmar contradict these ideals, showing the importance of continuing to take a stand.
